Palawan – Coron – day 1

Having missed Coron as my next destination when I was in El Nido (safety and convenience reasons) a group of friends finally decided to dive into the Coron islands. Without thinking it through I confirmed my ticket, it should be a blast :)

Tamron 18-270 PZD test samples

From Tamrom 18-270 PZD tests

It’s my first upgrade to a superzoom so I can’t say how this differs from the old non-pzd 18-270 of Tammy but my initial test shots were very good.

The image quality differs in some sets below as I’ve used three different Canon bodies:
1000d (first few)
7d (the ‘L’ test)
60d (The cosplay and supermoon phenomenon)

Also take note that I am still learning here so the image quality progresses as I post more.

Update: These shots are mostly in jpeg so there is some loss in detail.

Palawan Trip : Day 14 : Puerto -> Manila

Inato

Had a decent breakfast at a local fastfood (Chowking) after a very nice sleep at Royal Crown inn. Later on I had some lunch at chicken Inato, I thought it was just another chicken place but after ordering their chicken I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Their chicken tasted great, and so is their sotanghon, the reviews were right this time. The bees were a bit troubling though, there is some kind of bee nest outside so the management placed in some sweets at the fence to keep the bees in place instead of bothering the customers, a cup of cola seems to be enough to keep their attention. Palawan Trip : Day 13 : Puerto : Royal Crown Inn

Back shot, full-moon, early in the morning

The night at stunning was alright, the smoke coming from the ‘katol’ is a bit of an irritant but it’s fine rather than being bitten alive by mosquitoes, nik nik’s or whatever insects that thrives in that mini forest. The night at the forest is spooky, I thought I heard women giggling besides the house but there was noone there, I guess sometimes the combination of the breeze, rain water drops and trees makes some interesting sounds. The bathroom is clean but without access to flush every business must be done with a pail flush.

Palawan Trip : Day 12 : El Nido : Corong-corong : Stunning Vistas

Bahay Kubo~ , it's across the street!

Stunning Vistas' more expensive rooms

Last day at El Nido, I prepped all my things and left Marina. I hired a trike to take me to Corong-corong where I could find another room for one more night. Luckily I found Stunning Vistas, who charged me only 400php(!!),however the room is a small hut near the small forest and the toilet available has no flush. Basically I will live in a ‘kubo’, native-style like the old days where I used to live in Donsol, Sorsogon. Not so bad. Continue reading

Palawan Trip : Day 11 : El Nido : Tour A

Waiting again at Art cafe

I must meet the women who wrote this

I wasn’t feeling up for a kayak trip due to my exhaustion yesterday so I booked for a basic snorkeling tour instead. I ate a bit of breakfast but being still as tired as yesterday I don’t feel like eating, art cafe served some tuna sandwich on brown bread and it’s a bit … soggy and has a not-so pleasing taste. I waited for the boat for about an hour for the 9′o clock trip. I can see several foreign tourists again like last time. They are a lot more easier to get to talk to, Italians are especially friendly as I’ve noticed. I’ve also met someone from the US-Miami going solo, a group of four who are French, two Italians and a Slovenian who is also traveling solo. The two solo flights banded together for the trip, I feel more of a third party person here so we greeted each other a bit and the usual ‘where are you visiting from?’. I took extra precautions in getting up the boat this time, zipped my ziplocks and sometimes doubled the plastic bags to protect my cameras and my backup phone. Continue reading

Palawan Trip : Day 10 : El Nido : Tour B

Art cafe

Must see books in Art Cafe, the doodle guestbook

I can’t make a switch to Tour A even though I requested to be able to switch to either A or B due to weather conditions, Art cafe made me transfer to a bigger boat so I had to pay an extra 100php, the boat is filled with foreign tourists, I am the only Filipino tourist there… a stranger in my own country. They aren’t quite as approachable as the last few I’ve toured with, probably because they came in couples and not as a whole family, they all had their own time for themselves. Continue reading

Palawan Trip : Day 9 : El Nido : Tour A … cancelled!

I woke up and headed to the bathroom, a common cr, an old lady came out saying the toilet is clogged… I just told her the flush is too weak. It’s a hell of a way to star the morning, it’s a good thing I am near sighted that I cannot see the horrors. Yeah, whenever I feel uncomfortable or just don’t want to see human faces/feces once in awhile I simply take off my glasses.. it’s like immunity to people’s judgement or stares, it’s my secret super power. Neat huh? Continue reading
